Dataset Explanation
Source and Selection
- Our dataset is derived from SwissProt (Release: 11 February 2022), containing 542,953 proteins. From this release, we selected 518,422 proteins that have at least one Gene Ontology (GO) term annotation.
GO Term Descriptions
- For each GO term, we retrieved its textual description from the Gene Ontology Consortium (Release: 16 November 2021). The length of these descriptions varies between 3 and 7,836 words, with an average length of 310 words.
Protein Function Descriptions
Each protein entry includes three function-related paragraphs sourced from SwissProt:
- Function in UniProt: A general functional overview of the protein, typically found at the top of UniProt entries.
- Subunit Structure: Describes molecular interactions and associations with other proteins.
- Pathway Information: Explains the metabolic pathways in which the protein is involved.
