Evidence is mixed: larger body size can confer advantages in some contexts (e.g., greater absolute strength and performance capacity in young adults [Ten Hoor et al., 2018, 29492711]), yet it is also associated with higher long-term health risks and reduced longevity [Samaras & Elrick, 2002, 11853051]. Even in ecological studies, being larger helps under certain competitive mechanisms but is detrimental under others [Van Buskirk et al., 2017, 28616171]. Because “big” is not universally better nor universally worse, the most defensible conclusion is “maybe.”
