Tympanometry measures changes in middle-ear compliance as pressure is varied, providing an objective, non-invasive way to determine whether the Eustachian tube can equalize pressures; it is therefore the standard test of Eustachian tube function. VEMP evaluates vestibular pathways, rhinomanometry assesses nasal airflow, and the Politzer maneuver is an older, less quantitative method. [Siedentop 1978, PMID 646282]
