Benzoyl peroxide requires heating to about 60 °C before its O–O bond thermally cleaves to yield the benzoyloxy free radicals that initiate polymerisation of acrylic (methyl-methacrylate) resins. Laboratory syntheses routinely use BPO as an initiator at 60 °C, confirming that this is the practical decomposition/activation threshold [Kurt et al., 2022, PMID 35861087].
