Mandibular molars exhibit three recognizable accessory-canal patterns: (1) apical accessory canals/delta, (2) lateral canals along the root surface, and (3) furcation (inter-radicular) canals. Anatomical and micro-CT studies consistently describe these three distinct locations of pulpal–periodontal communication in mandibular molars [Gutmann, 1978, PMID 271710; Mazzi-Chaves et al., 2020, PMID 32049137].
