The Morris retractor is a broad, right-angled abdominal wall retractor that forms part of the standard instrument tray for open cholecystectomy done through a Kocher (right subcostal) incision; it is therefore most often employed to hold back the abdominal wall in the right hypochondrium, giving access to the gall-bladder and duodenum [Lazim, 1990, PMID 2102673; Ong, 1988, PMID 2962318].
