Acute boric-acid poisoning produces striking, diffuse erythema and desquamation that give the skin a “boiled lobster” appearance, a classic descriptive sign reported in human case series of boric-acid intoxication [Schillinger, 1982, PMID 6216273]. Nitric acid, sulfuric acid and phenol cause yellow, black or white skin discolorations respectively, not the lobster-red erythema.
