Reasoning: Neisseria gonorrhoeae possesses type IV pili that mediate adhesion and twitching motility (Anderson et al., 2014, PMID 24595372) and the organism is catalase- and oxidase-positive, properties routinely used for its laboratory identification (Saginur et al., 1982, PMID 6804487). Importantly, it can be readily cultured on chocolate or GC agar and therefore is not an obligate intracellular bacterium (Thakur & Dillon, 2018, PMID 29155021). Hence the statement that it is “intracellular obligate” is not true.
