Microangiopathic hemolytic anemia (fragmented RBCs, schistocytes) is the hallmark of thrombotic microangiopathies such as thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP); it is not a feature of immune thrombocytopenic purpura, senile purpura, or chronic myeloid leukemia [George & Charania, 2013, PMID 23390027].
