Recurrent episodes of severe abdominal pain accompanied by neuro-psychiatric disturbances (aggression, violent behavior) and subsequent motor weakness of a limb are the classic triad of an acute attack of acute intermittent porphyria; this pattern is not explained by conversion disorder, mitochondrial disease, or Guillain-Barré syndrome [Zimmermann 2006, PMID 17136412; Lin 2023, PMID 38274883].
