Local anesthetic deposited in the canine–lateral incisor region can diffuse anteriorly/superiorly through the infraorbital canal; once it exits the infraorbital foramen it can anesthetize or irritate tissues supplied by the infra-orbital nerve and vessels, producing burning and transient swelling in the lower eyelid and peri-orbital area [Scarano, 2018, PMID 29621089].
