Selective COX-2 inhibitors—and traditional non-selective NSAIDs—are widely employed for postoperative analgesia; multiple trials show they give opioid-sparing pain relief and are not generally contraindicated after surgery (contraindication is limited to specific settings such as peri-CABG use) [Afflitto, 2000, PMID 12024624; Schug, 2006, PMID 16785836].
