In cardiac patients, the induction agent should be one with minimal cardiovascular depression (e.g., etomidate or ketamine); thiopentone can precipitate significant hypotension and myocardial depression and is therefore not recommended, even though succinylcholine remains a common paralytic. The other statements describe standard rapid-sequence induction steps: rapid back-to-back administration of induction and relaxant, 3-minute pre-oxygenation, and maintenance of cricoid pressure until the cuff is inflated [Yeung & Zed 2002, PMID 17609005; Singh et al. 2010, PMID 20826962].
