Cold compresses (then warm), systemic antibiotics, and corticosteroids are all recommended to limit swelling, secondary infection, and inflammation after a sodium-hypochlorite extrusion. Intentionally over-instrumenting the canal to create drainage is contraindicated because it risks forcing more irrigant and debris into already-damaged tissues, worsening the injury [Hales et al., 2002, PMID 12004727; Hatton et al., 2015, PMID 25809429; Witton et al., 2005, PMID 16218978].
