The oblique line on the lamina of the thyroid cartilage serves as an attachment site for sternothyroid, thyrohyoid and the thyropharyngeal (upper) part of the inferior constrictor, but the superior constrictor originates mainly from the pterygo-mandibular raphe and adjacent bones and has no insertion on the thyroid cartilage [Fischer & Tillmann, 1991, PMID 2042750; Murakami et al., 1996, PMID 9038006].
