A self-inflicted bite of the numb lower lip after the inferior alveolar nerve block is a well-recognized cause of large traumatic ulcers in young children within 24 h of mandibular dental treatment, whereas anesthesia allergy, rubber-dam pressure, or formocresol leakage do not typically produce a midline lip ulcer [Chi et al., 2008, PMID 19026918; Tiwari 2023, PMID 37261171].
