Early removal of the supernumerary tooth eliminates the mechanical cause of crowding; afterward, orthodontic therapy can align the permanent dentition and relieve the arch crowding. Studies in pediatric patients show that surgical extraction of supernumerary teeth followed by orthodontic management yields the highest success in achieving proper eruption and alignment of adjacent teeth [Mínguez-Martinez et al., 2012, PMID 23211898; Leyland et al., 2006, PMID 16683671].
