Aminophylline, epinephrine and atropine are all routinely included on crash carts for intra-operative or peri-anaesthetic emergencies—aminophylline for severe bronchospasm or refractory asystole, epinephrine for anaphylaxis/cardiac arrest, and atropine for bradycardia [Krep et al., 2006, PMID 16670903; Hasegawa, 1986, PMID 3632968]. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic used for infection prophylaxis or treatment, not for the acute cardiorespiratory crises encountered in anaesthetic emergencies, making it the “odd” drug in the list.
