Nestin is an intermediate-filament protein that is strongly expressed by functioning odontoblasts; its immunostaining is therefore used as a molecular marker indicating the presence of dentin‐forming cells and newly formed dentin. Arestin is an antibiotic preparation and collagen, while abundant in dentin, is not classified as a dentin phosphoryn. Hence only Nestin fits the description. [Quispe-Salcedo 2012, PMID 22572386]
